Enter a start time and an end time to see the hours and minutes between them, in a day or across several days.
Type times as 8, 8:30 or 8:30:15. If the end is earlier than the start, the start is assumed to be on the previous day.
Find the hours and minutes between a time on one date and a time on a later date.
The calculator turns both times into a count of seconds since midnight and subtracts. From 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM is nine hours, which is 540 minutes. The answer is shown as hours and minutes, as a decimal number of hours, which is handy for pay, and as a total number of minutes. A decimal hour is a fraction of 60 minutes, so 45 minutes is 0.75 hour.
If the end time is earlier on the clock than the start time, the calculator assumes the start was on the previous day. From 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM is eight hours, not a negative number. For a span that is longer than a day, use the second calculator, which takes a date for each time and counts every day in between.
Choose AM or PM for each time. A time with an hour above 12, such as 17:30, is read as 24-hour time, and the AM or PM choice is ignored. Midnight is 12:00 AM and noon is 12:00 PM. Use the Now button to fill in the current time from your device. The calculator does not account for daylight saving time changes, so a span that crosses one can be an hour off.
Subtract the start time from the end time. From 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, that is 9 hours. If the end is earlier than the start, add 24 hours first.
Divide the minutes by 60. Fifteen minutes is 0.25 hour, 30 minutes is 0.5 hour and 45 minutes is 0.75 hour.
Enter the start and end times. If the end is earlier than the start, the calculator assumes the start was the day before.
This calculator gives the full span. To take off a break, use the Time Card Calculator, which has a break box for each day.
Type the hour alone, such as 8, or hour and minutes, such as 8:30, or add seconds, such as 8:30:15. Pick AM or PM, or use 24-hour time.
