Time Card Calculator

Enter your hours for the week to get a printable time report with total hours, pay and overtime.

DateFromToBreak

Times can be typed as 8:00AM, 8.30, 8:30 or 15:30. A break can be 0:30 or 30, meaning 30 minutes. Without AM or PM, 24-hour time is used. A shift that ends before it starts is counted as an overnight shift.

How the hours are worked out

For each day the calculator takes the time you finished and subtracts the time you started. A shift that ends earlier on the clock than it starts, such as 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM, counts as an overnight shift of eight hours. Your unpaid break is then taken off. The days are added up for the week. If a break is longer than the shift, the day counts as 0 hours.

Rounding and overtime

Some employers round the time. With rounding on, the calculator rounds to the nearest 5, 10, 15 or 30 minutes, or the nearest hour. For pay you can choose how overtime works: no overtime rate, overtime after a number of hours in a day, or after a number of hours in a week, or a cap on paid hours with no overtime. The overtime rate is a multiple of the base rate, commonly 1.5 times. Daily rules round each day, and weekly rules round the weekly total.

Printing and saving

Add a header and notes if you want them on the report, then use the print button to print it or save it as a PDF. If you tick the box to save your values, they are stored in this browser only, on your own device, so they are there the next time you come back. Nothing is sent anywhere. Overtime law differs by country and state, and by type of job, so check your own rules.

This calculator does simple arithmetic on the times you enter. Overtime and rounding rules vary by employer, state and country, so check your contract and local law for what applies to you.

Common questions

How do I calculate hours worked from a time card?

Subtract the start time from the end time for each day, take off your unpaid breaks, and add up the days. This calculator does it for the whole week.

How is overtime calculated?

Hours above the limit you set, per day or per week, are paid at the overtime rate, which is the base rate times a multiplier such as 1.5. Hours up to the limit are paid at the base rate.

How do I enter an overnight shift?

Just enter the start and end times, for example 10:00PM and 6:00AM. When the end time is earlier than the start, the shift is treated as running past midnight.

How do I enter a 30 minute break?

Type 0:30 or 30. A number on its own is read as minutes, and a time with a colon is read as hours and minutes.

Are my times saved anywhere?

Only if you tick the save box, and then only in your own browser. Nothing is sent to a server.
