Find the price after a discount, the percent off, or how much you save. Fill in any two values and the calculator does the rest.
A percentage discount takes a share off the original price. The amount you save is the original price multiplied by the percentage, and the sale price is the original price minus that saving. If an item costs 59.99 and is 15% off, you save 9.00 and pay 50.99. A fixed amount discount takes a set number of dollars off, such as 10 off, and the calculator then shows what percentage that works out to.
The calculator also works in the other directions. If you know the original price and the sale price, it shows the percentage you saved. If you know the discount and the sale price, it finds the original price by dividing the sale price by one minus the discount. If you know how much you saved and the percentage, it finds the original price. Fill in any two values and leave the others empty.
Two discounts do not simply add. Taking 20% off and then a further 10% off gives 28% off in total, not 30%, because the second discount applies to the already reduced price. To check a stacked discount, run the calculator twice, using the first sale price as the starting price for the second discount. Choose fixed amount off when a coupon takes a flat sum off the price.
Multiply the original price by the discount percentage as a decimal to get the amount saved, then subtract that from the original price. For 15% off 59.99, the saving is 9.00 and the price is 50.99.
Divide the sale price by one minus the discount as a decimal. If a price after a 15% discount is 50.99, divide by 0.85 to get an original price of 59.99. Enter the discount and the price after discount to do this.
Divide the amount saved by the original price and multiply by 100. Enter the original price and the sale price, and the calculator shows the percentage.
It means a set number of dollars is taken off, such as a 10 coupon. The calculator subtracts it from the price and also shows what percentage of the price it represents.
No. A second discount applies to the price after the first, so 20% off and then 10% off is 28% off in total. Run the calculator twice to check a stacked discount.
