Crypto Profit Calculator

Enter what you invested, and your buy and sell prices, to see your profit or loss after fees.

How crypto profit is worked out

You invest an amount of money, the exchange takes a fee, and the rest buys coins at the buy price. When you sell, the coins are worth the sell price each, and the exchange takes a second fee. Your profit is what you receive from the sale minus what you put in. The return is that profit as a percentage of your investment.

Fees matter

Exchange fees of 0.1% on each side may look small, but they are taken on both the purchase and the sale, and they come off before any gain. On a trade that moves only 1% in your favor, fees of 0.1% each way eat about a fifth of the gain. The calculator applies the buy fee to the money you spend and the sell fee to the money you receive. Enter 0 for either fee to see the result without it.

Break-even price

The break-even price is the sell price at which you get back exactly what you invested, after both fees. It is always a little above your buy price. The calculator shows it, and how far the price must rise to reach it. It does not include network or withdrawal fees, taxes, or the spread between buy and sell prices on the exchange, which also reduce the real result.

Crypto prices are very volatile and you can lose money. This calculator does simple arithmetic and is not financial advice. Tax on gains depends on where you live and is not included.

Common questions

How do I calculate profit on a crypto trade?

Divide your investment by the buy price to find the coins, multiply the coins by the sell price, and subtract the amount you invested. Then subtract the fees.

Are the fees taken from the investment?

In this calculator the buy fee comes off the money you spend, so slightly fewer coins are bought, and the sell fee comes off the money you receive.

What is the break-even price?

It is the sell price at which your profit after both fees is zero. It is above the buy price by about the total of the two fees.

What does ROI mean?

ROI is return on investment, your profit divided by the amount you invested, as a percentage.

Does this include taxes?

No. Many countries tax crypto gains, so check the rules where you live.
